FAQ

WHAT IS AIR 2K’S RANGE?
Air 2K’s range is up to 10 meters (about 33 feet) in direct or single bounced environments. We have tested it at longer distances without problems but it depends on the transmitter and receiver placement and room design. DVDO recommends testing Air 2K in the user’s particular environment to see how it performs.

WILL AIR 2K’S RANGE BE LONGER IN OPEN AIR?
Yes. If there is direct line-of-sight and no obstructions, Air 2K can connect well over 20 meters (66 feet). This is particularly useful in auditoriums and other open installations.

WILL AIR 2K’S SIGNAL GO THROUGH WALLS?
It will vary depending on the wall’s thickness and construction material. For example, the 60GHz radio frequency that Air 2K uses does not go through concrete, metal or thick wood. Air 2K works best in an in-room installation.

WHAT DOES THE LINK LIGHT INDICATE?
The link light indicates three things: A slow flashing light on either unit means the receiver and transmitter are setting up a wireless connection; a fast flashing light indicates that either unit is in the process of transmitting the AV signal; a solid light means the AV connection is successful. To have a solid connection, Air 2K needs video from an HDMI source connected to the transmitter and a display connected to the receiver.

WHICH IS THE TRANSMITTER AND WHICH IS THE RECEIVER?
The transmitter is marked “Transmitter” and has a black label, the receiver is marked “Receiver” and has a grey label. The transmitter also has a DVDO logo on the fron

MY AIR 2K WILL NOT CONNECT – WHAT DO I DO?
Make sure the Air 2K transmitter and receiver are within range – about 30 feet in the same room. The first time the units are powered on, consider bringing them closer together to verify that the system is working.
Make sure the source (e.g. Blu-Ray player or A/V Receiver) is plugged into the transmitter. The transmitter has the DVDO logo and the receiver does not. The transmitter and receiver can also be differentiated by looking at the rear label of each unit.
Try resetting both units by turning them both on and then holding down the scan button of each unit until both units’ LEDs turn off (about 10 seconds). This works best if the buttons on the transmitter and receiver are held in at the same time.
Lastly, Make sure all the HDMI® connectors are completely plugged in
DOES IT MATTER WHICH IS THE TRANSMITTER AND WHICH IS THE RECEIVER?
Yes, the transmitter (has the DVDO logo) should be hooked up to the Blu-Ray player, A/V receiver or any other source device. The receiver should be connected to a TV, projector or any other sink device.

WHAT MOUNTING OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE FOR AIR 2K?
Air 2K comes with two mounting brackets with break-off tabs: one for the transmitter and the other for the receiver. It is also shipped with drywall screws and double adhesive tapes. Air3 has been designed to provide a variety of mounting options for the user. The units can be mounted directly to a wall with drywall screws. They can be directly attached to a surface or through a mounting bracket with tape. It is important that the front part of the receiver and transmitter be pointed towards each other or towards the wall or ceiling to allow the radio signal to reflect off the surface. Many customers mount the receiver just below the top edge of the TV pointed upward at a 45 degree angle to catch the signal that bounces off the ceiling.

DO AIR 2K TRANSMITTER AND RECEIVER NEED TO BE POINTED AT ONE ANOTHER?
The best connection can be obtained if the transmitter and receiver are in direct line-of-sight of one another and generally aimed at each other. If either unit is sitting flat on a table, the antenna points out the mesh-screen side upward at a 45 degree angle. The best orientation for the transmitter is usually flat on a table or equipment rack and the receiver vertically screwed or attached to a wall.

Note that if both units can see the ceiling or another wall, they will bounce the signal off that surface to connect. In this way, the units can normally be hidden from view.

WHAT RESOLUTIONS ARE SUPPORTED WITH AIR 2K?
Air 2K supports all standard HDMI video resolutions up to and including 1080p/60. It supports most PC resolutions as well as DVI connections. It also supports 3D as well HD audio formats (Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA). Contact DVDO if you have a resolution that you are not sure Air 2K will support.

WHY DOES MY TV SOMETIMES SAY “NO CONNECTION”?
As long as the Air 2K transmitter and receiver units are within range, they will maintain a constant connection, but a connection can be lost momentarily when the user is changing inputs or resolution. In this case, the transmitter will automatically re-connect after a brief delay (less than 10 seconds)

WILL THE POWER SUPPLIES INCLUDED WITH AIR 2K WORK WITH 220V AS WELL AS 110V?
The Air 2K transmitter and receiver power supplies are universal and will work internationally. However the prongs are for the US power receptacle. An adapter will be required for other countries. For example, an EU adapter will be needed for EU countries.

The Air 2K receiver uses a micro USB connector for power. This allows it to be directly powered by the TV’s USB port using the USB to micro USB cable, if the TV can supply sufficient current. If the TV or display is unable to supply power, use the USB AC power adapter that comes with Air 2K.

WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF THE SCAN BUTTON ON THE AIR 2K TRANSMITTER AND RECEIVER?
In applications with a single transmitter and two receivers, pressing the scan button on the transmitter for 2-3 seconds changes the receiver that the transmitter is connected to.

In applications with a single receiver and two transmitters, pressing the scan button on the receiver for 2-3 seconds changes the transmitter that the receiver will receive the signal from.

Pressing the transmitter scan button until the LED goes off (around 10 seconds) will reset it to factory default and the transmitter will locate the first receiver found.

Similarly, pressing the receiver scan button until the LED goes off (around 10 seconds) will reset it to factory default and the receiver will locate the first transmitter found.

WHAT IS WIRELESSHD® AND WHERE CAN I LEARN MORE ABOUT IT?

HOW IS AIR 2K DIFFERENT THAN OTHER WIRELESS SOLUTIONS FOR HDMI?
Air 2K is based on the 60GHz WirelessHD standard which is free from other wireless interference and has very low audio/video delay. The high bandwidth of the radio frequency results in excellent audio and video quality. However, Air3 is not able to work beyond walls, unlike other 2.4 or 5GHz technologies. The Air 2K performance approaches that of a cable, without having cables to worry about. Air 2K’s wireless technology will perform very well in a gaming setup which requires very low delay and high AV quality. Other wireless technologies won’t.

HOW MANY AIR 2K’S CAN BE INSTALLED IN A ROOM?
Two Air 2K’s can be used simultaneously in a room since each will occupy a different wireless channel. Air 2K’s WirelessHD implementation supports two separate high rate channels.

DOES AIR 2K SUPPORT AUDIO RETURN CHANNEL (ARC)?
No. Air 2K does not support ARC.
